Success Story: Dr. Mercy Namuma Mulaku

INGUIDE and Humanitas University collaborate on building guideline development capacity in LMICs.
Dr. Mercy Namuma Mulaku, a pharmacist, lecturer, and public health researcher from Kenya, joined the INGUIDE community through the Humanitas University sponsorship training, which supported five emerging experts from across Africa to attend INGUIDE courses in Milan. Through this sponsorship, Mercy completed the full INGUIDE training pathway: Certified Guideline Panel Member, Certified Guideline Methodologist, and Certified Lead Guideline Developer and Chair.
Connecting Experts to Global Opportunities
Following her training and facilitation experience, INGUIDE connected Mercy with an opportunity to join a WHO Guideline Development Group as a co-methodologist.
This milestone represents significant professional growth and deepening expertise: an achievement made possible through INGUIDE’s commitment to linking learners with meaningful experiential opportunities that align with their career development.
A Model of Capacity Building
Through structured training, mentorship, and facilitated connections to real-world projects, Mercy has become a powerful example of how coordinated guideline capacity-building can create sustainable impact across countries and institutions.
‘INGUIDE program provided a platform where I completed a training in guideline development, which strengthened my skills in evidence appraisal and recommendation drafting. Shortly after, I was given an opportunity where I applied the knowledge and skills I had acquired as a co-methodologist to WHO guideline development group. My contributions included reviewing and interpreting evidence, developing outcome descriptors, preparing evidence to decision framework tables, drafting and refining recommendation statements, participating in deliberative discussions, and ensuring alignment with established methodological standards. My involvement demonstrated the practical value of the training and reinforced my commitment to advancing evidence-based approaches to future guideline development initiatives.
I confidently recommend this training to colleagues. It offers valuable knowledge, hands-on experience, and tools that greatly enhance the quality of guideline development work. I sincerely thank the INGUIDE program, WHO and Humanitas University, for their effort and investment in making this training possible. Their commitment created an enriching learning experience for me.’
Strengthening Guideline Development Capacity in LMICs
Mercy’s success reflects INGUIDE’s wider strategy to support learners and institutions in low- and middle-income countries.
INGUIDE collaborates with partners such as the Humanitas University, to create sponsored learning opportunities, ensuring that financial barriers do not prevent talented experts from accessing training. Beyond the formal courses, INGUIDE actively connects learners with experiential opportunities when available.
By aligning sponsorships, structured learning, and practical experience with established institutions, INGUIDE helps bridge capacity gaps and nurtures a growing network of skilled methodologists, chairs, and panel members across LMICs.
Moving forward, INGUIDE will continue “connecting the dots” globally matching learners with impactful training, supporting their involvement in high-value guideline initiatives, and strengthening evidence-based decision-making across regions.
